How to Become a Seller
Seller Application Process
To become a seller on Making It Market:
- Click the “Become a Seller” link on our website.
- Complete the seller application form.
- Submit your shop information for review.
- Wait for approval from the marketplace administrator.
- Once approved, create your seller profile and begin adding products.
All seller applications are manually reviewed to ensure products and shops align with the marketplace vision and standards.
Making It Market reserves the right to approve or deny any seller application at its sole discretion.
Seller Application Review Process
All seller applications are carefully reviewed before approval. This review process helps maintain the integrity, originality, and overall quality of the marketplace.
Making It Market is committed to supporting authentic creators, artists, makers, collectors, and curators. Applications and products may be reviewed to help reduce the presence of copied products, unauthorized reproductions, counterfeit items, or designs being sold without proper rights or permission.
Our goal is to create a marketplace that values originality, creativity, craftsmanship, and respectful business practices while protecting both sellers and customers.
Founding Seller Program
Making It Market is currently in its launch phase and accepting a limited number of founding sellers.
Founding sellers may receive:
- Reduced marketplace fees during launch
- Early promotional opportunities

- Access to future marketplace growth benefits
Marketplace fee structures may change as the platform grows.
Seller Expectations
All sellers are expected to:
- Maintain accurate and honest product listings
- Use clear and representative product photos
- Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Ship orders within stated processing times
- Maintain respectful communication with customers and marketplace staff
- Follow all marketplace rules and policies
- Provide high-quality customer service
Repeated violations of marketplace standards may result in listing removal, account suspension, or permanent removal from the marketplace.
Handmade & Seller-Created Product Standards
Making It Market is focused on supporting creativity, craftsmanship, originality, and meaningful seller involvement in the products offered on the marketplace.
Products listed as handmade, custom, or seller-created should be substantially created, designed, assembled, customized, curated, or produced by the seller.
As a general guideline, products should be at least 50% hand-created, designed, assembled, customized, or personally produced by the seller.
Use of professional production tools, printing equipment, laser equipment, embroidery equipment, digital design software, or approved production assistance is permitted when the seller remains meaningfully involved in the creative and production process.
Mass-produced items with little or no seller involvement may not qualify for approval on the marketplace.
Making It Market reserves the right to review products and shops to ensure they align with the marketplace’s focus on originality, craftsmanship, creativity, vintage goods, antiques, and authentic seller participation.
Shop Setup Guidelines
Approved sellers are responsible for properly setting up and maintaining their storefront.
Sellers Should Include:
- Shop logo or profile image
- Shop banner or branding image
- Shop description/about section
- Accurate processing times
- Shipping information
- Return/refund information if applicable
Shops should present a professional and cohesive appearance.
For additional onboarding instructions and setup guidance, sellers should review the “Launch Your Shop” page available on the marketplace website.
Product Guidelines
Products listed on Making It Market must fall within approved marketplace categories.
Approved categories may include:
- Handmade items
- Personalized items
- Custom creations
- Vintage items
- Antique items
- Collectibles
- Home décor
- Seasonal products
- Digital downloads
- Art and creative goods
All listings must:
- Include accurate titles and descriptions
- Clearly represent the item being sold
- Include accurate sizing, dimensions, or specifications
- Use original product photos whenever possible
- Reflect honest pricing and availability
Vintage & Antique Policy
Vintage and antique items are welcome on Making It Market.
Definitions
- Vintage items are generally considered items that are at least 20 years old.
- Antique items are generally considered items that are at least 100 years old.
Sellers must accurately describe:
- Item age
- Condition
- Known flaws or wear
- Restoration or alterations if applicable
Misrepresenting the age, authenticity, or condition of an item may result in removal from the marketplace.
Prohibited Items
The following items are prohibited on Making It Market:
- Counterfeit or replica products
- Trademark-infringing products
- Unauthorized copyrighted materials
- Illegal items
- Weapons or hazardous materials
- Hate speech or discriminatory content
- Adult or explicit content
- Stolen goods
- Fraudulent listings
- Products violating local, state, or federal laws
Making It Market reserves the right to remove any listing deemed inappropriate or inconsistent with marketplace standards.
Intellectual Property & Copyright Policy
Sellers are responsible for ensuring they have the legal rights to sell all products, artwork, designs, images, and materials listed in their shop.
Sellers may not:
- Use copyrighted artwork without permission
- Use trademarked logos or brand names without authorization
- Sell counterfeit or imitation products
- Reproduce protected designs without licensing
Copyright or trademark complaints may result in:
- Listing removal
- Account suspension
- Permanent seller removal
Repeat intellectual property violations will not be tolerated.
Product Photography Guidelines
To maintain a consistent and professional marketplace appearance, sellers are encouraged to use:
- Clear, well-lit photos
- Clean backgrounds
- Multiple product angles
- Accurate product representations
- Minimal distractions or clutter
Photos should not contain excessive watermarks or misleading editing.
Shipping & Processing Policies
Sellers are responsible for fulfilling and shipping their own orders.
Sellers Must:
- Ship orders within stated processing times
- Provide tracking information whenever possible
- Properly package items to prevent damage
- Notify customers of delays or issues promptly
Processing and shipping times should be clearly stated in each listing.
Returns & Refunds
Each seller is responsible for handling customer service related to their products.
Because many items sold on Making It Market may be handmade, custom, vintage, or antique, return policies may vary by seller.
Sellers Should Clearly State:
- Whether returns are accepted
- Return timeframes
- Conditions for refunds or exchanges
- Exceptions for custom or personalized items
Making It Market reserves the right to intervene in disputes when necessary.
Seller Fees & Commissions
Marketplace fees and commission structures may vary over time as Making It Market continues to grow and expand.
Current Marketplace Fee Structure
- Sellers will be charged a 10% commission on completed sales.
- Additional payment processing fees may apply through Shopify or integrated payment providers.
As part of the current launch phase, the 10% marketplace commission also includes promotional support through Making It Market’s social media platforms.
Promotional efforts may include:
- Featuring seller products on social media
- Showcasing products during live sales events
- Product spotlights and promotional posts
- Rotating featured seller exposure across marketplace platforms
Sellers will rotate through featured promotional opportunities to help provide visibility across the marketplace community.
As Making It Market grows, additional marketing services, premium promotional placements, or advanced advertising opportunities may later become optional add-on services separate from the standard marketplace commission structure.
Making It Market reserves the right to update marketplace fees, commission structures, and promotional offerings with notice to sellers.
Taxes & Legal Responsibility
Sellers are responsible for:
- Reporting income
- Collecting and remitting applicable taxes where required
- Following local, state, and federal laws related to their products and business operations
Making It Market is not responsible for seller tax obligations.
Marketplace Rights
Making It Market reserves the right to:
- Approve or deny seller applications
- Remove listings
- Suspend seller accounts
- Remove products violating marketplace policies
- Update marketplace policies at any time
- Limit or remove marketplace access at its discretion
Marketplace decisions are made to maintain quality, safety, professionalism, and legal compliance.
Account Suspension & Removal
Seller accounts may be suspended or permanently removed for:
- Repeated policy violations
- Fraudulent behavior
- Intellectual property violations
- Poor customer service
- Excessive order issues
- Failure to fulfill orders
- Misrepresentation of products
Serious violations may result in immediate removal without warning.
